England have received the World Cup! Football Superstars, an MMO (massively multi-player online game), has hosted a virtual World Cup tournament in which England have won – although the real 2010 South African World Cup ended in tears for the England team, the virtual team managed to play a whole lot better.
England are the World Cup winners for the virtual Football Superstars epic event; this is an MMO (massively multi-player online game) that relives the World Cup, but as a video game. Unlike the actual England team that was bested by Germany in South Africa, the virtual England team went all the way. Battling Germany in the group brackets online, the England team performed to a much higher standard compared to the real team, managing to hold Germany to a 1-1 draw. The German team then continued to lose to the Ukraine 2-1 in a closely fought match, making Germany drop out in the group stages – a situation not probable to be matched in the real arena of World Cup football. Reaching the Semi Finals, England were forced to play Portugal, a team they now have a history with – due to earlier questionable actions in matches, England were feeling good thanks to the 9-1 win over Lithuania in the Quarter Finals. England began strong and went on the offensive; the game was decided in the midfield where England managed to hold onto the ball for longer than the Portuguese, eventually creating more opportunities and scoring 4 goals, while only letting in 2 themselves. The score became 4-2, and England were going to the final. The final was against Russia and started well for the English; in less than one minute, a goal was ripped from the Russians without much of a defense. All was not easy going for the England team, though, and Russia fast answered the early goal with a goal of their own, showing that they came to play. It made for a great online football game as Russia equalized, due to an intercepted clearance by the English goalie that saw him way off his line and the resulting shot far out of reach. However, the victory didn’t last long for the Russian team as the English scored a close goal at the other end. The game came England’s way as they found more goals and, while the Russian team had the heart, they just seemed unable to make any real come back throughout the rest of the game. The last whistle sounded after 90 minutes, and England became the World Cup winners for the Football Superstars PMC tournament. Talking about the event Andre Ruddick the CyberSports Community Manager labelled it a huge success, thanks to the dedication of all those involved and the great organization from each team. It had been the biggest event hosted yet by Football Superstars. He stopped things by thanking everybody involved in the event and congratulated the England team for the fantastic level of play they had shown throughout the tournament. There will be rematch tournaments hosted later on this year.
