BT’s proposed high speed broadband network, an ambitious £1.5bn project, is all set to become operational by March 2012 before the London Olympics, nearly a year earlier than the previous target date of March 2013. Once completed, the new network promises to provide superfast internet speeds ten times faster than the present speed.

The Financial Times carried a news report where Dougal Scott, Sky’s deputy head of strategy, commented on the fact that BT needs to put on offer attractive wholesale deals in order to lure potential operators and earn profit from the huge investment. In addition, Scott said that he plans to keep BT updated on the needs of the customers and the modifications required in the trial products.
Charles Dunstone, TalkTalk’s chief executive, has already announced that the products offered by BT Openreach are not attractive in the present form. To this, a spokesperson of BT has replied that they are confident that after the initial hiccups of the pilot project, BT will be in a position to provide reliable, flexible and high-speed service to the operators.
